There are some common misconceptions about what is involved among patients who come to Zeeba clinic for a facelift consultation.  In this blog, we will describe what a facelift is and what it is not.  This information will be helpful when deciding which procedures to choose.

A facelift is a surgical procedure that tightens the skin and deeper layers to reverse the signs of aging.  The primary treatment area is the mid and lower face, such as corners of the mouth and jaw line. A facelift alone can correct:

  • Marionette lines (also known as frown lines)
  • Sagging skin and other tissues at the jawline (jowls)
  • Creases extending from the nose to the corners of the mouth
  • Other unwanted wrinkles or folds in the skin
  • Restores lost volume in the cheek area

When Dr. Bahman Guyuron performs a facelift, he removes excess skin and tightens the neck.  He may also use an injection of stem cells to revitalize the tissues beneath the skin, which produces a healthy glow.

mini facelift is a modified version of a traditional facelift. The mini facelift is less dramatic and most appropriate for younger patients with minimal signs of aging, such as fine lines or wrinkles and loose skin.

The most common misconception is that a facelift will treat all areas of the face.  This is not true. A facelift is limited to the mid and lower facial areas, so it does not include any treatments above the nose including the forehead, brows, and eyes. Tightening the neck skin is part of the facelift, but neck contouring is a separate procedure (which can be added to a facelift).

You may choose to have additional procedures done to address these other areas.  These procedures can be combined with a facelift:

  • Rhinoplasty (nose surgery)
  • Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery)
  • Brow lift
  • Forehead lift
  • Chin reshaping
  • Neck lift
  • Laser skin resurfacing
  • Facial implants

The most common procedures to combine with a facelift are chin, forehead, and eyelid procedures.

When you schedule a facelift consult at Zeeba Clinic, Dr. Guyuron will take time to look to understand your concerns, carefully examine your face, and recommend a treatment plan that will achieve the look you desire.  He can determine if a facelift alone will be sufficient, or if you should consider additional procedures for the forehead, eyes, nose, chin, or neck areas.  The final decision will be yours.

The best time to consider having a facelift is at the first sign of aging, but facelifts can be done at any age so long as the general health is good.
