The effects of aging and gravity in the forehead, eyebrows, and eyelids can make one look older or create an unintentional angry, tired and sad facial expression. Brow lift surgery is used to lift the sagging eyebrows and a forehead lift is used to eliminate the unwanted lines and wrinkles in the forehead area and between the eyebrows (frown lines), in addition to raising the eyebrows. These procedures are often combined with eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) to target sagging eyelid skin.  Depending on where the incision is placed a forehead lift can also make a long forehead look shorter.

Brow and forehead lift surgery are outpatient procedures, meaning there is no overnight stay at the clinic or the hospital. Social recovery time, meaning looking presentable enough to resume the social and professional calendar, is 1- 2 weeks.

The first step is to schedule a consultation with a plastic surgeon who specializes in facial cosmetic procedures.  Dr. Bahman Guyuron has over 35 years of experience in cosmetic plastic surgery of the face and neck, and he has traveled the world teaching his techniques to other surgeons.

During the consultation, Dr. Guyuron will carefully assess your forehead and eyelids to determine what needs to be done to achieve the desired look.  He will also review what to expect on the day of surgery and during recovery. Dr. Guyuron offers in-person and online consultations to accommodates local patients and out of town patients.

On the day of surgery, all patients are given pain medication and anesthesia (topical or general) to minimize discomfort during the surgery.

Dr. Guyuron will make several small incisions or one long, curved incision at the hairline, depending on the surgery plan.  Small incisions are used to rearrange or weaken the wrinkle-causing muscles in the forehead and brow area.  A long incision is used to shorten and lift the forehead at the same time.  Excess, loose skin and excess fat will be removed.

Immediately after surgery, all patients will rest in the recovery suite until it is safe to leave. A friend or family member will need to drive the patient home or to the hotel from the clinic.

A post-surgery appointment with Dr. Guyuron will be scheduled within a week following surgery. This could be a Skype or FaceTime consultation for the out of town/country patients. During this time, Dr. Guyuron will check the incisions for proper healing and address any questions and concerns. There will be additional follow-up in person or online visits for all patients as the healing continues.
